Childhood Vaccinations in the UAE: Everything Parents Need to Know

The UAE has one of the most comprehensive childhood vaccination programmes in the world. The Dubai Health Authority (DHA) mandates specific immunisations for all children, and keeping up with the schedule is essential for school enrolment, nursery admission, and your child's overall health.

The DHA Mandatory Vaccination Schedule

Beyond the Mandatory Schedule: Recommended Additions

At Al Das, our paediatricians also recommend:

  • Influenza vaccine (annually from 6 months) - particularly important given UAE's year-round flu circulation
  • Meningococcal vaccine (ACWY) - recommended for adolescents and before university
  • Hepatitis A booster - given high travel frequency of UAE families
  • Typhoid vaccine - for families travelling to South Asia or Africa

Common Parent Concerns

"My child had a reaction to the last vaccine" Mild reactions (low fever, fussiness, redness at injection site) are normal and indicate the immune system is responding. Our paediatricians assess each child individually and can adjust the schedule if needed.

"Can we delay vaccines?" Delaying vaccines leaves your child unprotected during their most vulnerable period. The schedule is designed based on when children are most at risk. However, if your child is unwell with fever, we'll reschedule by a few days.

"Are combination vaccines safe?" Yes. Combination vaccines (like DTaP-IPV-Hib) reduce the number of injections while providing the same protection. They've been used safely for decades worldwide.

Vaccination Records and School Requirements

Dubai schools and nurseries require:

  • Up-to-date vaccination card (DHA format)
  • Completed mandatory schedule for age
  • Some international schools require additional vaccines

We provide official DHA-format vaccination records and can transfer records from other countries into the UAE system.

Catch-Up Schedules for New Arrivals

If you've recently moved to Dubai and your child's vaccinations are incomplete or from a different schedule, our paediatricians create a personalised catch-up plan that aligns with DHA requirements while minimising the number of visits.

Making Vaccinations Easier

Our paediatric team uses:

  • Topical numbing cream (applied 30 minutes before)
  • Distraction techniques for toddlers
  • Age-appropriate explanations for older children
  • Comfortable, child-friendly consultation rooms
  • Same-day appointments for urgent catch-ups
